New Delhi (India) — On Friday, the Supreme Court will make its decision on a petition brought by Zakia Jafri, the widow of former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri, challenging the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other participants in the 2002 Gujarat riots.Zakia Jafri has criticized the SITs' clean chit to 64 people, including Narendra Modi, the Gujarat Chief Minister during the 2002 Gujarat riots, saying that they have not argued at all about the former chief minister's participation and are on the subject of a larger conspiracy that was not investigated by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).Setalvad had also contested the Gujarat High Court's refusal to reopen the SIT's closure report in October 2017 and gave a fresh chit to then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and other top politicians and bureaucrats.Zakia had requested the Supreme Court to grant ad-interim order to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a further inquiry into the petitioners complaint dated June 8, 2006, citing a lack of prosecutable evidence against them.
