30L participants sign up for games in rural areas

Jaipur, India: More than 30 lakh athletes have registered from 11,341 gram panchayats in Rajasthan for the first edition of the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Olympic Games, which starts on August 29.During the Games, six categories including kabaddi, tennis ball cricket, volleyball, hockey, shooting ball, and kho kho are being formed.It will begin at the gram panchayat level, and the winners will advance to the block level competition, which will begin on September 12.Both the levels will be a four-day affair.

Starting October 2, the Games will conclude with a state-level competition.According to Rajasthan State Sports Council chief sports officer Virendra Poonia, various committees have been established to ensure smooth operation and a budget has been allocated to all the gram panchayats and blocks.Rajasthans Dushyant Jakhar has been elected as the captain of the Indian senior mens volleyball team, which will compete in the AVC Cup in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, on August 7 to 14.Sandeep Singh and Ajit Sekhon have also made it into the Indian squad, according to the state.
