A 20-year-old Kolhapur lady conquers Mount Everest.

Kasturi Savekar, 20, is the first woman from Kolhapur to achieve this feat . Savekar had also conquered Mount Manaslu, which is also an 8,000-meter peak .

KOLHAPUR (KOLHAPUR) On Saturday morning, twenty-year-old Kasturi Savekar summited Mount Everest and waved the Indian tricolour atop the world's tallest peak, 8,848 meters, becoming the first woman from the western Maharashtra city to accomplish this feat.She reached Mount Annapurna-l on April 30, one of the most dangerous mountains to summit with a high suicide rate of 34 percent.Savekar had also conquered Mount Manaslu, which is also an 8,000-meter peak.Kasturi had also attempted to summit Monunt Everest last year.

However, her father, Deepak Savekar, said she was determined to hold on to her Mount Everest dream and kept practising.Savekar started from the Everest base camp on May 9 and reached the peak at 6 a.m. on May 14 after getting a forecast window.Kasturi began trekking to the Sahyadri ranges with her father as a child.A Kolhapur woman summits Everest According to Deepak Savekar, in the gratitude month being conducted to honor Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj, she summited both Mt Annapurna-I and Mt Everest.

Kasturi Savekar of Kolhapur has done a great job climbing Mt Everest right after scaling Mt Annapurna.Jitendra Gaware, a Pune-based mountaineer from Giripremi, also scaled Mt Lhotse, becoming only the second person from the state (after Ashish Mane) to reach five 8,000-plus peaks, according to Umesh Zirpe, the president of Akhil Maharashtra Giryarohan Mahasangh.
