A senior loses Rs. 75,000 due to fraudulent electricity bills.

Two reports have been received by the city police alleging that they were tricked in the name of unpaid electricity bills . The victim was contacted by a number listed in the SMS .

Mysuru: Two reports have been received by the city police, alleging that they were tricked in the name of unpaid electricity bills, a new way of life used by cyber criminals to trick innocent seniors.In his complaint, a 60-year-old senior citizen from the city's NR Division called the CEN police, claiming to have received an SMS from an unknown number advising him that his electricity bill needs to be updated.The victim was contacted by a number listed in the SMS.The miscreant advised him to download a software and then transfer Rs 10 at first.

Officials advised the people to be vigilant.CEN police officer N Jayakumar said that awareness is crucial in preventing the deception of these tricks by conmen.The public should not respond to such types of SMS or install unknown applications.Phishing can only be stopped with the help of the public, he said.

People should call the 112 or approach the nearest police station in the case of any such trebles, they said.
