NEW DELHI: The biggest security concern for both Australia and India is China's extensive military buildup and assertiveness in the Indo-Pacific, according to Australian deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles, who called on the two countries to collaborate even closer to maintain the region's global rules-based system.China is trying to shape the world around us in ways that were previously unimaginable.According to Marles, we are seeing more assertive behavior from China, especially in the last couple of years.Chinas barbaric conduct has been apparent along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, where Indian and Chinese were killed in a border clash in June 2020 for the first time in 45 years, as well as the South China Sea, where Beijing is constructing artificial islands and strong-arming its neighbors on territorial disputes.

Marles, who is also the defence minister, also expressed deep concern about the growing military alliance between China and Russia.
