New Delhi, India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced on Saturday that the landfall process of Cyclone Mandous had begun, bringing moderate to heavy rain to coastal Tamil Nadu.Following the landfall, the system is expected to weaken to a deep depression and then a depression on Saturday.In a tweet at 4:48 a.m., IMD said that it is very likely to pass almost westnorthwestwards and gradually weaken into a deep depression during the next two hours and into a depression by noon on December 10th.Many areas of Chennai are in heavy rainfall and high winds as a result of Cyclone Mandous' landfall off the coast of Mamallapuram.
Stalin said that district wise the cyclone's monitoring has also been carried out.Meanwhile, Dindigul Collector declared a break for schools and colleges in Sirumalai and Kodaikanal for Saturday, after the IMD announced a red warning for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Andhra Pradesh.The cyclone is being monitored by Doppler Weather Radar Karaikal and Chennai.
