Patna (Patna): After the fourth round of counting, the opposition BJP has led the by-election to Kurhani assembly constituency in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar, with a margin of 941 over his nearest JD(U) rival Manoj Singh Kushwaha, who received 14,552 votes. However, the contest is being seen primarily between Gupta and Kushwaha. Both are former MLAs.The by-poll was prompted by the disqualification of sitting RJD MLA Anil Kumar Sahani by less than 700 votes in the 2020 assembly polls that the BJP and JD(U) had contested in coalition.

Nearly 58% of voters exercised their vote on Monday in a by-poll in Kurhani, where Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's JD(U) and the BJP have met for the first time since their break-up four months ago.
