Agra, Ghaziabad, and Prayagraj in the Uttar Pradesh now have police commissioners thanks to the Yogi Government.

By implementing a police commissioner system in Agra, Ghaziabad, and Prayagraj cities, violence would be reduced . A single additional police commissioner will be of the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) rank instead of two .

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), November 25, 2018: The BJP-led government of Uttar Pradesh has implemented a police commissioner system in three more cities in the first phase on January 13, 2020, and in Kanpur and Varanasi on March 26, 2021.By implementing a police commissioner system in Agra, Ghaziabad, and Prayagraj cities, violence would be reduced, he said.Also, a better and efficient police department would also exist in these cities in public interest, he said.A single additional police commissioner will be of the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) rank instead of two.A DCP deputy commissioner of police at the Headquarters will be a SSP officer.

After the introduction of the commissioner system in both cities on March 26, 2021, Vijay Singh Meena and A Satish Ganesh were elected police commissioners in Kanpur and Varanasi respectively.
