Ahead of the World Cup, England hopes that Ben Stokes will continue to play in ODIs.

Ben Stokes declared his retirement from ODI cricket earlier this year . Matthew Mott hopes to persuade him to return to the 50-over format .

England is hoping that all-rounder Ben Stokes will retire from ODI cricket in time for the 50-over World Cup in India next year.Stokes was instrumental in England's recent World Cup final victories.Although he went unbeaten in the T20 World Cup final against Pakistan on Sunday, he remained unbeaten in the summit clash against New Zealand in 2019.However, the 31-year-old Test skipper declared his retirement from the 50-over format earlier this year, saying that playing three formats was no longer viable for him.Matthew Mott, who took over as England's white-ball coach in May, hopes to persuade Stokes to reverse his ODI departure.

Thats his choice. It will be a World Cup year, and we wont play much T20 cricket for a long time, but it will be up to him, according to Mott. The all-rounder is a vital component in Englands white-ball cricket puzzle.Hes doing an incredible job as the Test captain, but when he returns to white-ball, he becomes a very important cog in the wheel, he said.I think we have a lot of guys who can do extraordinary things, but he was the player you knew you'd win the game if you wanted, he said.
