AHMEDABAD: The city council body ordered 22 lakh national flags for Rs 5 crore as part of the Har Ghar Tiranga initiative of the Union governments. The flags were to be sold for Rs 30 per flag to the general public. This proposal has been recently accepted by the general body of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).However, the AMC has reduced the order quantity to 11 lakh flags due to a shortage of bamboo sticks for flagpoles in the area.

Despite the fact that there is no bamboo in the region, the city has only been able to produce 11 lakh national flags.According to sources, 6 lakh of the procured flags are made from aluminium sticks as flag poles.According to an official with the AMC, the public body has already been able to procure around 4 lakh bamboo sticks to serve as national flag masts. The remaining 6 lakh are made of aluminum poles.
