INDORE: In the last decade, the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission has had around 2,000 cases involving various recruitment issues, an impressive average of 200 court cases per year, or one every other day.According to an RTI response to this correspondent, all of these lawsuits involved just 58 advertisements for employment to various government departments between 2012-13 and 2021-22.The plaintiffs filed the lawsuits based on answer keys, incorrect answers being allegedly marked as correct, and the deletion of questions leading to non-selection, a merit list, age relaxation, and a reservation roster, according to the court.PSC candidates move court on non-issues after the deadline, such as filling out forms and entering details in an interview after being declared ineligible for failing to provide the marksheet on time, according to MPPSC chairman Dr Rajesh Lal Mehra.

The state government makes decision on matters such as the reservation roster, age-relaxation, and eligibility criteria.Mehra explained that the commission is a party to those topics that are not related to us.Mehra explained and argued that the answer key is given on the basis of a consensus of an expert panel, and that the merit list is then assembled.Mehra said that the number of cases may be large, but that there are not so many.

In 2018-19, the commission faced 158 litigation, but not a single advertisement was published, and the following year, there were 64 litigation regarding a single advertisement.According to the RTI response, there were 34 court cases per advertisement aired in the last decade on average.CASE 1: In the last five years, the MPPSC has released three merit lists for the assistant professor recruitment exam, which were released in 2017 for 3443 positions.Hundreds of lawsuits have been filed over incorrect computation of woman reservation, handicapped reservation, and others.

Nevertheless, the commission is now compiling merit lists for the test.CASE2: The MPPSC is rewriting the PSC-2019 examination results based on MP high court rulings because it allowed the transfer of meritorious students of the reserved category for selection on unreserved category seats. After the mains declaration, the commission has to retrace the whole recruitment process.
