LONDON (London) – Arsenal stunned Crystal Palace 2-0 on Friday as the new Premier League season began, with Gabriel Martinelli scoring the first goal and home defender Marc Guehi turning the ball into his own net late on at Selhurst Park.Gabriel Jesus, an Arsenal striker who joined from Manchester City in the summer, looked set to get off to a flying start by dancing through the Palace defence only to be blocked, with Martinelli pulling the rebound wide of the post. When Arsenal quickly increased the tempo, Oleksandr Zinchenko, another new signing from City, walked around playing brightly and had a shot blocked, but the Ukrainian quickly had a hand in the opener goal as Palace were spotted flat-footed at a corner.Zinchenko, a Ukrainian national, was found in acres of space by Bukayo Sakas, who headed the ball back across the goal, where Martinelli nodded it into the net.

After the break, Arsenal wasted another great chance to level up, but Ramsdale was quick to react, running out to block Eberechi Ezes' shot.Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta was worried as his team grew more ragged in the second half after finishing fifth, but the Palace attack seemed out of sync with Zaha, aside from the midfielder.Palace coach Patrick Viera pushed everyone forward for the last 15 minutes, but the visitors doubled their lead when Guehi deflected a Sakas cross into his own goal in the 85th minute to seal the victory for the away side.
