CHENNAI (CHENNAI)-Officials in Chennai introduced chemicals to 7,000 kg of mangoes and 500 kg of bananas that were ripened artificially by vendors at the Koyambedu wholesale complex on Wednesday.Officials searched 30 shops in the market complex and discovered that six vendors had packed ethylene sachets in direct contact with the fruits, violating food quality legislation.The six vendors were fined Rs 5,000 by the government, who sent notices asking them to explain why they did not follow safety policies.
