The BJP is in a difficult situation as the decades-old border dispute between Karnataka and Maharashtra, which is currently ruled by the party, returns to the limelight.Mrs Fadnavis of Maharashtra and Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj S Bommai have exchanged ferocious words on the tense political issue yesterday, saying no village in Maharashtra has attempted to join Karnataka recently.Mr Bommai retorted the Maharashtra BJP leaders' remark as disingenuous and said his dream will never come true.Mr Bommai said that in the past, some village panchayats in Maharashtra's Sangli district had passed a bill requesting a union with Karnataka in the event of a water scare.Mr Fadnavis said that the Karnataka government had devised ways to assist them and that his government was seriously considering their merger demands.

According to him, a water supply scheme for these villages was also planned out. We're now going to approve this scheme.Mr Fadnavis said that the old (Uddhav Thackeray-led) government could not accept it because of Covid. The BJP returned to power in June, along with a Shiv Sena group led by Eknath Shinde, who retaliated against Thackerays' leadership in Karol Pradesh's alliance with the Congress and the Sharad Pawars NCP.

Recently, a 19-member committee composed of leaders from all Maharashtra factions met and decided to urge the Supreme Court to accelerate the hearing. The state government has formed a senior ministers committee to handle the issue, according to Karnataka Chief Minister Anand Kumar.
