Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) (India), August 6: Atul Rai, a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP who was accused of rape was cleared by a Varanasi court on Saturday.Rai was cleared by Additional District Judge Siyaram Chaurasia of Varanasi MP MLA Court for a lack of evidence, according to Rai.The judge conducted the trial by video connection from Naini Central Jail.Atul Rai is a BSP MP from Uttar Pradesh's Ghosi district.

On May 1, 2019, a Ballia woman raped a BSP MP at the Lanka police station in Varanasi.Notably, the woman and an eyewitness in this case set themselves on fire by pouring flammable material on herself in front of the Supreme Court on August 16, 2019.Following this, both were admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi in a critical condition.However, both succumbed to injuries after nine days.
