India's railways (IR) announced on Wednesday that it planned to have net zero carbon emissions by 2030 (both on rooftops and on its vacant land), and that about 142 megawatts (MW) of solar energy plants (both on rooftops and on its vacant land) have been installed in locomotives, electrical multiple unit (EMU) trains, mainline electric multiple unit (MEMU) trains, Kolkata Metro rakes, and electric train sets.The Railways also started afforestation of railway tracks to eliminate the carbon footprint.Other initiatives included green certification of various industrial units, railway stations, and other railway establishments.In addition, the certification of various railway stations' environmental management systems has been also certified.
