Call for resuming Karaikal train service

Trichy, June 12: Members of the Karaikal District Railway Travellers Welfare Association (KDRTWA) held a protest outside the Karaikal railway station on Wednesday, demanding that trains operate from there before the pandemic.Karaikal is a key region of the Puducherry union territory covered by a terminal railway station with all facilities, like space and water, according to Association secretary A S T Ansari Babu.Every day from Bengaluru, Kerala, Coimbatore, Pollachi, Tirunelveli, and Chennai, tourists and pilgrims throng Thirunallar, Velankanni, and Nagore in great numbers.They wanted all trains, which were operated by Bengaluru-Karaikal-Bengaluru daily, Trichy-Karaikal-Trichy daily, and Thanjavur-Karaikal-Thanjavur, to be replaced.

In this regard, a letter has already been sent to the general manager of Southern Railway, which has been changed in Madurai.The postal department has announced a change in pincode for ten areas that serve as the Uthangudi Branch post office, since these areas were relocated to the high court bench post office.Residents of VIP Garden, Karpaga Vinayagar Nagar, Ulaganeri, Ambalakaranpatti, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, Poombuhar Nagar 1, 2 and 3 Extensions, PKP Housing Unit, Valar Nagar, and nearby areas, Ilanthaikulam and Jayaraman Nagar, were requested to use the pincode 627023, which was used by the Uthangudi branch post office.
