Cauvery Bridge Repair in Trichy Has Been Postponed

Heavy water flow in the Cauvery canal has delayed work on restoring the bridge . The 56-year-old bridge connects Srirangam island to Trichy mainland .

TRICHY (Trichy): Due to a heavy water flow in the Cauvery canal, the state highways department has delayed work on restoring the 56-year-old Cauvery bridge that connects Srirangam island to Trichy mainland.The district administration is tasked with implementing flood prevention strategies.We are not closing the bridge for repair due to the substantial flow in the Cauvery.We will begin doing maintenance work as the flow returns to normalcy, according to an official state highways department announcement.

Once the maintenance work begins, there will be a traffic divert.Officials said vehicles coming into Srirangam from Melachinthamani would be diverted to the Odathurai Road, Cauvery bridge on Trichy-Chennai NH, Kumbakonathan Salai.Buses departing from Srirangam for the Chathiram bus station will use the Gandhi Road, Thiruvanaikoil RoB, Kumbakonathan Salai, Trichy-Chennai NH, Odathurai road, and Melachinthamani.Trichy's regional transport office has issued a circular instructing city and mofussil buses not to collect additional ticket prices from passengers, citing the traffic divertion.
