Washington, D.C., December 5 : China has numerically the largest navy in the world with a total battle force of ships and submarines, according to a Pentagon study published last month titled Chinas Military Power Report 2022.When piracy and hijacking ships for ransom in the Gulf of Aden were affecting global energy and trade routes, China joined a national surveillance program to monitor the region's waters.According to the US study, the PLAN is mainly composed of modern multi-role vehicles, and a key justification for it is to ensure the stability of their commercial engagements and maritime trade, said Pannerselvam, who is an assistant professor at the National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), Bengaluru.In the near term, the PLAN will be able to carry out long-range precision attacks on land targets from its submarines and surface combatants using land-attack cruise missiles, increasing notably the Peoples Republic of China's (PRC) global power projection capabilities.

As China's global military objectives shift, the PRC has increasingly been encouraged to think about how it can leverage military coercion — and inducements — to advance and protect these goals, according to the survey.The Pentagon notes that a global PLA military logistics network and PLA military facilities have also been considered as PRC's global military
