Citizens' body to President: Establish fertiliser unit

Namrup, the Citizens Forum, has urged President Ram Nath Kovind to accelerate the construction of the fourth unit of Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL).The BVFCL plant is at risk of closing due to depletion of demand over the years, according to a memorandum sent to Kovind by the conference.It is the country's oldest gas-based fertiliser plant.Ram Vilas Paswan, the then Union fertiliser minister, had announced the establishment of the fourth BVFCL unit on his visit to Namrup on June 26, 2006.

However, production capacity has declined dramatically over the years due to obsolete tools and machines, according to the memo.
