citywide replanting to promote biodiversity

Pune is a city in which Pune is located.The Pune forest department is undertaking replantation projects in and around the city, including the NIBM forests, Mohammedwadi, Lohegaon, Wanowrie, Kothrud, and Warje among other places.To raise nitrogen content, reduce soil erosion, water runoff, and overall improve the soil quality, the forest department has listed 10-12 such sites for this year.The Gliricidia trees were planted in various habitats for a period of two to five years, depending on the soil moisture, so that the next plantation can flourish successfully.

The department has partnered with several non-governmental organizations and environmental activists.Although the drives have started, Rahul Patil, Pune's deputy conservator of forests, said they will resume after July 1 because of the monsoon delays.
