Coimbatore will form an NCORD committee to address the drug epidemic

COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore district will soon have a Narco Coordination (NCORD) center to enable greater coordination between the central and state departments in combating drug trafficking.NCORD was established by the ministry of home affairs in 2016 to maintain regular contact with the central and state departments to ensure that laws are being implemented correctly.The MHA removed the NCORD system into four levels on July 29, 2019, including an apex level committee, an executive level committee, state-level committees, all headed by chief secretaries, and a district level committee, headed by district magistrates, for improved coordination and cooperation.The MHA also recommended that there be monthly meetings at the district level and quarterly meetings at the state level with the presence of officers of the appropriate rank.

Sameeran said that schools and the higher education department should run awareness campaigns at all schools and colleges on drug use.Parents should also be notified by the education department if they learn about the student's drug use.The educational institutions should ensure that banned tobacco products are not sold near them.The drug control inspectors should run inspections at the hospitals and warehouses regularly to make sure the planned medications are not being sold to anyone without valid prescriptions.
