New Delhi, December 9, : The Supreme Court issued a notice to the Centre on Friday, demanding that the minimum age of marriage for Muslim girls be equal to that of people of other faiths, according to Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha.However, the minimum marriage age for Muslim women is 15 years, and the Prisoner of Children Act (POCSO) does not require individuals under the age of 15 to consent to sex, according to the NCW.The plea said that the PIL was filed by the National Commission for the Protection of Children's Rights (NCPCR) for the purposes of ensuring that Islamic personal law is updated with the penal laws applicable to other faiths.The High Court ordered that the Punjab government be advised of the order and that senior advocate Rajshekhar Rao be amicus curiae to assist the court in its investigation.
