Chandigarh: Former Haryana chief minister and Opposition Leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda said on Saturday that a complete reform of agrarian policies aimed at the welfare of farmers is needed.Hooda, who leads the committee on farm issues in Rajasthan's pending Nav Sankalp Shivir, addressed a press conference in Udaipur on Saturday.The committee held a discussion of improving the farmers' present situation, with an emphasis on raising their production and income, he said.Hooda said that Congress intends to free farmers from loan waivers in order to achieve debt-free living.

According to him, the Congress government in Rajasthan waived off farmers loans worth Rs 15,602 crore, Madhya Pradesh Rs 11,912, Punjab 4,696 crore, and Karnataka Rs 22,548 crore.During the Chintan Shivir discussions on farm issues, including the National Farm Debt Relief Commission, a lot of questions and suggestions emerged.This commission is supposed to be created to free farmers of mountains of debt.Hooda said that if a farmer is unable to repay his loan, his property should not be auctioned and that he should not face any kind of felony charge.
