BENGALURU: A 45-year-old woman went missing after reportedly cheated 40 people of Rs 3 crore by eliciting their money in her co-operative organisation by promising high interest.After absconding for ten months, she was arrested last week.A Kengeri resident named Lakshmi Vani alias Vani was a member of the cooperative club.At the time of her detention, she was found to be a cook at a kalyana mantap near Kengeri for a minimum wage of Rs 800.Over 40 people deposited Rs 3 crore in the couples, according to Rajajinagar police.Sri Varidhi Sowhardha Credit Co-operative Pvt Ltd. Vani was arrested in two bribery cases, according to police, at the Rajajinagar and Nandini Layout police stations.In Rajajinagar and Laggere, she had two levels of the family.Over Rs 3 crore was lost by the depositors. He is a retired government employee.Shivalingaiah noticed a Varidhi cooperative group nearby when he went to his bank in Rajajinagar 3rd Block to withdraw his pension, and met Vani and her husband Sudheendra, who claimed to be the society's directors.The couple convinced him to pay him.He believed them and deposited Rs 10.2 lakh on November 7, 2019. He filed a police report.Vani and Sudheendra were absconding, and cops recently traced the latter to Kengeri.She told police that she had lost all of her money in the chit fund industry.Her husband abandoned her in the beginning of 2021 and she joined the kalyana mantap as a cook to earn a living. She was remanded in jail after being brought up by a judge.
