Chennai (Tamil Nadu) (India), December 9: The Greater Chennai Corporation offered precautionary measures and urged people not to walk on beaches tomorrow, as the Mandous Cyclone is expected to become more intense and widespread, according to Education Minister A Namassivayam.Around midnight on December 9, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that the powerful cyclonic storm Mandous would pass west-northwest and cross north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and the adjacent south Andhra Pradesh coast between Puducherry and Sriharikota at a windspeed of 65-75 kmph.Around midnight of December 9, IMD said in a tweet at 2:59 a.m. on Friday that the Mandous Cyclone will become heavy and build more intensity by Friday morning.It is expected to maintain the intensity of the Severe Cyclonic Storm until the early morning of 9th December and then gradually decline into a cyclonic storm by the forenoon of 9th.
According to an official, the Eastern Region Indian Coast Guard issued a red alert for 13 districts in Tamil Nadu on Thursday, December 2022, and intensified into a Severe Cyclonic storm, which lay centered at 1730 hours IST.The cyclonic storm Mandous, which was pronounced as Man-Dous over the Southwest Bay of Bengal, was about 420 kilometers east-southeast of Karaikal and about 440 kilometers southeast of Chennai.
