NEW DELHI: To create employment opportunities for women, West Delhi's Najafgarh district will be developed into a women-led micro-enterprise hub.The Delhi government is forming area-level federations, in the framework of the National Urban Livelihood Strategy, that will provide meaningful and sustainable livelihoods to local women by providing credit and market relations, adequate housing, and the right training. On Friday, Delhi Revenue Minister Kailash Gahlot spoke with 12 newly formed women self-help organizations in Najafgarh, which would be part of district-level federations.Officials said that efforts are being made to ensure universal financial inclusion by opening of basic savings accounts, improving saving habits, and empowering access to financial literacy, credit, affordable insurance, and remittance services to these women entrepreneurs.

According to Gahlot, such grassroots organizations are vital for equitable economic growth and democracy strengthening.According to him, this is in accordance with Delhi's Rozgar Budget, which aims to create 20 lakh jobs over the next five years.A city-level federation consists of ten area-level units made up of ten self-help organizations.Officials claim that a consortium of 70 students from three colleges, College of Vocational Studies, Aryabhatta College, and Netaji Subhash University of Technology, have taken an initiative to support the government in Najafgarh to establish a city-level women's federation, which will work closely with self-help organizations to establish self-sustaining large-scale enterprises.

These students will use their knowledge gained here to become successful entrepreneurs and job creators rather than job hunters after graduation, according to Gahlot, who also represents Najafgarh assembly constituency.
