MUMBAI (MUMBAI): The Bombay high court asked the state government to disclose what steps it is taking to safeguard Dr. B R Ambedkar's original handwritten manuscripts on Thursday.Justices Prasanna Varale and Shrikant Kulkarni heard a suo motu PIL that was converted in December 2021 from a news release citing the government's decision to cancel its effort to publish Ambedkar's speeches and writings.The HC had asked the states to respond to an earlier hearing.Poornima Kantharia, a government pleader, said the response was complete and would be submitted after receiving permission from the state department concerned.

With the start of the monsoon, it is possible that the papers will be spoiled and that there will be irreversible damage, he said.According to Kantharia, the government is taking steps to ensure that the manuscripts are taken off the internet and stored properly.In the response, she said the details are clearly stated.The HC gave the state two weeks to respond with details of the remediation efforts taken, and the hearing took place after four weeks.
