Dinkar Gupta, a former DGP for Punjab, has been named the new NIA Director General.

Dinkar Gupta, a former Punjab DGP, appointed Director General of the National Investigation Agency . Gupta will be the first full-time DG of NIA since Y C Modi retired on May 31, 2021 .

NEW DELHI: Dinkar Gupta, a former Punjab DGP and an IPS officer of the 1987 batch, was appointed Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) by the Centre on Thursday.Since former NIA chief Y C Modi retired on May 31, 2021, Gupta, who was appointed the state police chief in October 2021 by the erstwhile Congress government led by Charanjit Singh Channi, will be the first full-time DG of NIA.Since Modis' demise, CRPF DG Kuldiep Singh was in charge of an additional director for the NIA.After being replaced by Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota, Gupta will serve as chairman of Punjab Police Housing Corporation (PPHC) until March 31, 2024, the date of his retirement, or until further orders of the government are given, whichever is earlier.

V S K Kaumudi replaces him as secretary of the Cabinet secretariat (security).Das, a 1987-batch IPS officer in the Chhattisgarh class, has been posted to the position until November 30, 2024, the date of his superannuation, or until further orders are given, whichever is later.Interestingly, IB chief Aravinda Kumar and RAW chief Samant Goel's extended tenure will expire on June 30, 2022.
