On August 5, director Shankar received an honorary doctorate from Vels University.At the 12th Annual Convocation of the college, the director was conferred with an honorary doctorate, which was witnessed by Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi and Indian cricketer Suresh Raina.According to reports, director Shankar said that the doctorate has given him a lot of support and that he is looking forward to introducing new media technologies in film.He also stated that he is enthralled by the doctorate, which is a huge inspiration to him.

Gentleman was directed by Shankar in 1993, which was a smash hit.In Kollywood, the director has made big hits like Kadhalan, Indian, Jeans, Mudhalvan, Anniyan, Sivaji, and Enthiran.The director is now shooting for the film RC 15 and will soon begin working on his next film Indian 2 with actor Kamal Haasan, which is a remake of the 1996 film Indian.
