Washington, September 23: Director James Cameron revealed that the screenplay for Avatar 2 took at least 13 years to be written and then thrown in the trash before it was released. It turns out that at least a year of the 13-year gap between 2009's Avatar and 2022's The Way of Water was spent on a screenplay that will never see the light of day. When I sat down with my producers to write Avatar 2, I said we should never do the next one until we understand why the first one did so well.We must crack the code of what the hell happened to us.

He shared, All films work on different levels. The first is the surface, which is the object, the issue, and its solution. The second part of the story is thematic. What is the film trying to say?

I wrote an entire story for the sequel, read it, and realized that it did not reach level three.dout Start over. That took a year to come.Cameron described this third level of being there, being in that space, being in a setting that was safe, and being where you wanted to be.

It was a sensory thing that understood at such depth. The first film's spirituality was rooted in that spirit. He also sacked his Avatar sequel writers because they were trying to create new stories rather than trying to figure out what made the first film a record breaker.Cameron added, I knew there were going to be three sequels at the time, and eventually it became four, so I formed a coalition of writers and said, I don't want to hear anybodys new ideas or pitches until we have spent some time figuring out what worked on the first film, what worked, and why it worked.

We aren't doing that yet, I said.I eventually had to threaten to fire them all because they were doing what writers do, namely, to try and create new stories. On September 10, James Cameron unveiled many scenes from Avatar: The Way of Water, his second sci-fi adventure, at D23 Expo. The film stars Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Jemaine Clement, and Kate Winslet.
