Dry Bihar Illegal Liquor Tragedy Leaves 11 Dead, 5 Arrested, and Cop Suspended

Chhapra, Bihar: Officials said that eleven people died and 12 people were seriously ill after drinking alcohol in Saran district of dry Bihar, some of whom lost their sight, while the SHO of the police station and the local chowkidar have been suspended.According to them, the incident originated from villages in the Maker Police Station area that fell under the Phulwariya panchayat, and those who were injured were taken to the Sadar Hospital.During a joint press conference in Chhapra town on Friday, those whose conditions worsened were rushed to PMCH hospital in Patna, nine people died while under treatment at Patna Medical College and Hospital, one at a private health facility, and one person was cremated before the government came to know about the incident, according to the officials.Twelve people are also under treatment here and in PMCH, according to the officials.According to the officials, the festival took place on August 3, when locals consumed toxic liquor, and a departmental investigation was launched against them for failing to take note of the local tradition and take preventive measures, according to a senior officer.
