Poviet KaurChandigarh (English): With public and private schools in UT re-opening after the summer break in July, the National disaster management department has urged states and UTs to ensure the safety of their students on their way to and from school.The University of Texas has also decided to conduct an investigation of student welfare practices in all schools, for which the department has requested a report from school leaders.The Punjab and Haryana High Court has asked the UT to maintain a safe transportation system.Schools have been asked to make arrangements for this as soon as they reopen.

According to a secretariat official, students were ferried in dangerous cars and that many vehicles were overloaded.Three-wheelers, according to it, were violating school transportation safety requirements.The National Disaster Management Commission has asked the director of school education to develop the Safe Transport Strategy.
