Bathinda: The total number of wheat straw-burning cases in Punjab rose 14,000 on Saturday, the highest number in six years, with 306 new cases recorded by the end of the day.For the last 44 days, farm fires have been recorded on a daily basis.They've already broken a five-year record.If the number of acres affected rises to 14,436, as predicted in 2017, the number of cases would be the highest in seven years.

It was followed by 43 in Ludhiana, 32 in SBS Nagar, and 31 in Kapurthala.Ferozepur has recorded the highest number of cases this year, 1414.It is followed by 1,225 cases in Amritsar, 1,103 in Gurdaspur, 1,092 in Moga, and 1,059 in Tarn Taran.SAS Nagar has been the least disturbed among districts in terms of wheat straw burning, with only 27 cases reported.The major increase in wheat straw burning cases in the upcoming season is being viewed as a serious issue, since wheat chaff prices have hit an all-time high, and the months of March and April saw temperatures that were higher than average.
