Cameroon held to a 0-0 draw with Switzerland in their first World Cup match . Cameroon came close to scoring twice in the first half, but were unable to convert opportunities .

Al-Wakrah Qatar, November 24 : Cameroon showed great courage in their group G match against Switzerland at the Al-Janoub Stadium, holding their opponents to an end to the first half at 0-0.When faced with their European opponents, Cameroon was ranked 43rd in the FIFA rankings.Nevertheless, the African team did not stifle early ingresses into the Swiss arena. The Swiss defence was tense as Cameroon forwards kept track of the ball and made spirited runs towards their opponents' goalposts.

However, the spirited Cameroonian forwards showed their range and intensity when they came sly close to scoring twice in the first half.In the first half, Jean-Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, the Cameroonian forward, was the standout player, having created some spectacular opportunities to score, but the Bayern Munich forward was unable to convert the opportunities.Despite not scoring a goal, he was a live wire on the field, and the Swiss defense would be weary of him in the second half.Ruben Vargas, a Swiss winger, crossed the field with a reckless Cameroon tackle.

Manuel Akanji missed out on a slim chance of a good corner kick.Akanji had to kick the ball into the goal, but his header went wide of the left post, giving the attacker a grim chance of scoring. The Swiss team will be ruining the game's chance of taking the lead. They'd be kicking themselves at the chance to score the first goal of the campaign, although Cameroon was able to hit five shots at the Swiss goal, while Switzerland managed just two.

For the first time ever and only the second time in a World Cup, Switzerland faces Cameroon. In the 2006 World Cup, Togo defeated an African nation 2-0.
