Doha (Qatar), November 26: Ecuador came from behind to hold Netherlands to a 1-1 draw in the second game of their Group A match at the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2022, although in the process they knock out hosts Qatar, who lost 3-1 to Senegal earlier in the tournament. The Netherlands took the lead early on thanks to Cody Gakpos' second goal of the season, but Ecuador responded quickly in the second half with Enner Valencia. The former West Ham striker netted his third goal of the season, but there were late fears for him as a result of a knee injury, and the Netherlands will only need a point against Qatar in their last group match on Tuesday.Gakpo scored with six minutes remaining in the Netherlands' first game against Senegal, but it took him until the sixth minute against Ecuador, a team that had seven straight clean sheets.

The goal was later disallowed for offside because Jackson Porozo was found to be blocking Andries Nopperts' view of the goal. After 49 minutes, however, Ecuador was not to be denied the equalizer as Noppert could only palm Estupinans into Valencias path, who had free reign of the six-yard box to prod into an empty net.Again, a VAR check for offside was carried out, but Valencia was left with genuine fear for Ecuador as a result.
