First executions in Kuwait since 2017: 7 people, including 2 women

Seven people executed in Kuwait for murder, three for drug crimes, three for murder . Amnesty International says it is the first executions since 2017 .

Kuwait put seven people to death for murder on Wednesday, according to the public prosecutions service, as the first executions since 2017 were carried out, along with three Kuwaiti men, a Syrian, and a Pakistani, according to a statement released by Amnesty International late on Tuesday.The executions come after Saudi Arabia announced the execution of two Pakistani citizens for smuggling heroin, putting an end to a nearly three-year period of executions for drug crimes.The majority of those detained were murderers or drug dealers, according to Kuwaiti authorities.In April 2013, three men were hanged after being found guilty of murder.Two Egyptians were executed two months later, after being convicted of murder and kidnapping, in Kuwait, which has an elected parliament and a vibrant political scene, in the past.
