First time, NCP will contest UP local body elections

Lucknow: The forthcoming Lokal body polls in Uttar Pradesh, which are scheduled in November, will be conducted by the Sharad Pawars Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).For the first time, the NCP, which is a key component of the anti-BJP axis in the region, will contest the local body polls in UP, according to the party's national general secretary and UP chief KK Sharma, who said that the party must be in a stronger position before the 2024 general elections.The membership drive is continuing.New people are being recruited, said Sharma, adding that the party's forthcoming national convention in Delhi next month will be focused on the party's preparations and roadmap for local body polls in UP as well.

Last month, the NCP reorganized its UP unit and created a 73-member state executive committee, which included the state president, 22 vice presidents, 24 general secretaries, 11 secretaries, and 15 members.To have political access to every district of UP, the members were drawn from all the districts of UP, with a maximum from Purvanchal.The 2022 assembly elections in UP also marked a change in the NCP's electoral plan in the state.The party did not contest the previous two assembly elections in UP in 2012 and 2017, when it joined the main opposition party, Samajwadi Party, and contested Anupshahr assembly seat (in Bulandshahr) on its own party symbol.
