Following the fires in Delhi, the state is focusing on fire safety.

Bhubaneswar: Odishas director general of firefighting Santosh Kumar Upadhyay gave his officers instructions to strictly follow the Odisha Fire Prevention and Fire Safety Guidelines the day after a large fire engulfed an office building in Delhi, killing at least 27 people.Fire safety inspections are required at places of worship such as auditoriums, hotels, lodgings, and guest houses, educational institutions above 12 meters in height or with a built-up area of more than 1000 square meters, cinema halls, multiplexes, and healthcare establishments above 12 meters high or more than three floors, as well as research facilities, coaching centers, hospitals, and industries.The Director of General Services has issued guidelines for ensuring the appointment of fire safety inspectors for the buildings listed by the directorate.For added security, the fire station officers will consult with the concerning supervisors at various locations.

All firefighters, deputy fire officers, and assistant fire officers have been trained to check major buildings and then take appropriate steps.The DG said that all fire station officers have been reminded to take preventive and safety precautions in fairs, mandaps, jatra, and other events that feature more than 2000 participants at once.Local fire officers will be required to provide the participants with safety certificates.He continued, the organizers would ensure that they had taken all necessary steps to minimize fire hazards.
