Vellore (Tamil Nadu) (India), December 9 (): In collaboration with The Cytometry Society of India, Christian Medical College-Vellore organized a 2-day workshop for laboratory technicians on technological advancements and best practices for assessing Minimal Residual Disease (MRD) in Acute Leukemia & Myeloma.Nearly 100 participants from around the world participated in this knowledge-sharing event, which included Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Korea.Eminent speakers from leading medical colleges and hospitals elaborated on the analytical aspects of MRD assessment.Atul Grover, Managing Director of BD IndiaSouth Asia, said, Over the years, flow cytometry has proved to be an invaluable asset in several clinical applications.

In keeping with our aim of Advancing the Future of Health, we want to promote best practices for better patient outcomes.Minimal residual disease (MRD) is a term used to describe the absence of significant number of cancer cells in the body after cancer treatment. An MRD positive test result means that the disease has been identified immediately after treatment.Doctors use MRD to determine the effectiveness of their therapy and to determine which patients are at risk of relapse.

Dr. Arun Kumar Arunachalam, Associate Professor, Department of Haematology, Christian Medical College, Vellore, said that it is encouraging to see the enthusiasm in the field of MRD, and that we never expected this to be the case in the region and beyond. There were a lot of interplays and discussions between the speakers and the participants, and I am sure everyone who attended the event would have enjoyed the program.Looking forward to more such collaborations with the BD.Monitoring the response to chemotherapy and the length of recovery is critical in the treatment of patients with hematological abnormalities.

Flow Cytometry is a technique used to sort, separate, and examine microscopic particles, such as cells and chromosomes. It is an essential component of surgical diagnostics and investigation.BD is one of the world's largest medical equipment manufacturers, and it is advancing the field of health by enhancing medical research, diagnostics, and patient care.BD supports clients to increase productivity, reduce costs, increase cost effectiveness, increase efficiency, improve safety, and increase accessibility to health services.
