New Delhi (India), June 24: In an official statement released on Friday, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has accepted a draft notification for the launch of Bharat NCAP (New Car Assessment Scheme), in which cars in India will be evaluated by their performance in crash tests, enabling consumers to choose safer cars based on their star ratings.He said that the star ratings of Indian cars based on crash tests are vital not only to ensure structural and passenger safety in cars, but also to increase the export-ability of Indian automobiles.He then said that the testing protocol of Bharat NCAP would be compatible with international crash test protocols, allowing manufacturers to get their vehicles tested at Indias own in-house testing facilities.
