GHMC employees protest over unpaid salaries

Hyderabad: On Thursday, hundreds of sanitation workers from Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) held a demonstration to demand their salaries at its headquarters.At least 300 workers showed up outside the GHMC commissioners' office with placards criticizing CM K Chandrasekhar Rao.Officials intervened and offered a promise to pay the bill soon after, causing the protestors to disperse.U Gopal, the president of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Employees Union (GHMEU), told the media that the civic body's biometric machines were on the verge of failure, resulting in pay cuts for several workers.

Around 700 employees have been fired, and they haven't even been paid.On several occasions, we have sent multiple letters to the GHMC commissioner and zonal officers, but nothing was done, according to Gopal.He said that it was unfair to dismiss hundreds of existing staff when the CM promised to even make outsourced workers permanent.
