Vansda (Gujarat): Apparently, unknown people attacked BJP candidate Piyush Patel from Vansda late Wednesday, ahead of voting that begins on Thursday for the first phase of Gujarat elections.According to SK Rai Deputy Superintendent of Police, Navsari, the perpetrators threw stones and attempted to vandalise his vehicle.Mr Patel sustained head injuries and was taken to the hospital with him.The incident has been investigated by police.It is reserved for candidates from the Scheduled Tribes, with the ruling BJP building hope in retaining its 27-year-old rule in the state, while the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress are targeting anti-incumbency issues such as inflation and unemployment to gain control.The fate of 788 candidates in the first phase of polling will be decided by 2,39,76,670 voters.
