Vansda (Gujarat) (India) December 1: Piyush Patel, the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) candidate from Vansda, was reportedly attacked by unknown miscreants late Wednesday ahead of the first phase of Gujarat elections on Thursday.Patel, the BJP candidate from Vansda, claimed that he was escorted from Pratapnagar to Vandervela village with his supporters and was assaulted.He alleged that the miscreants pelted stones and attempted to vandalise his vehicle.According to SK Rai Deputy Superintendent of Police, Navsari, a case has been reported and an investigation is ongoing.
The BJP has accused supporters of Congress candidate Anant Patel of staging the assault.Vansda is Gujarat's 182 Legislative Assembly constituency.It is only appropriate for candidates from the Scheduled Tribes to run in the Gujarat Assembly elections.The high-octane political fight has deteriorated to a battle of ballots as part of the first phase of polling today.The ruling BJP is expressing faith in preserving the state's 27-year history, while the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress are aiming to cash in on anti-incumbency and unemployment to win control.The first phase of the campaign has seen 788 candidates vie for power, including 718 male and 70 female candidates.
