AHMEDABAD: On his one-day visit to the state, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu visited Mahatma Gandhis birthplace in Gujarats Porbandar and offered prayers at two temples in Dwarka.His tour to Gujarat comes on the day the election of the next Vice President takes place.The outgoing Vice President and his wife Usha Naidu arrived at Jamnagar Air Force Station, where they were met by Gujarat governor Acharya Devvrat and chief minister Bhupendra Patel.From there, the Naidus headed to Dwarka, where they prayed at Nageshwar Jyotirling temple and Dwarkadhish temple.He was treated to a traditional performance at Porbandar.He was greeted by local BJP leaders by sporting a traditional headgear he wore.Naidu's message in the visitors book at the Kirti Mandir encouraged people to explore the area and take inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi's life and ideals, according to him.I am so grateful and proud to be able to visit Mahatma Gandhi's birthplace. In the visitors book located at Gandhis birthplace, I encourage everyone, especially the young generation, to visit this place and draw inspiration from Gandhijis' life and ideals, he wrote.Naidu also posted photos of himself visiting the two temples on his official Twitter account.Jagdeep Dhankhar, a National Democratic Alliance (NDA) nominee and former West Bengal governor, is vying for the next Vice President in the poll.Margaret Alva (80) is the joint opposition candidate. He is expected to succeed the incumbent Vice President, whose term ends on August 10.
