BJP candidate Hardik Patel attributed the party's success to the removal of Article 370 from the Constitution . Patel switched from Congress to the BJP in June and joined the BJP .

Ahmedabad (Gujarat): With the Bharatiya Janata Party taking a clear lead in the vote counting underway today for the Gujarat Assembly elections, BJPs Viramgam candidate and Patidar leader Hardik Patel attributed the party's success to the work done thus far.According to Patel, the BJP won the removal of Article 370 from the Constitution, months before the state elections and joined the BJP.On August 5, 2019, the Modi government scrapped the contentious Article 370, which gave the state of Jammu and Kashmir a special status.With the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), there was no competition.

Patidar quota stir chief Viramgam contested the polls from his home town, one of Gujarat's 182 assembly constituencies, with 73,786 votes, while Congress received 28,634 votes, according to official results released at 8.55 a.m. on Thursday.The Gujarat Assembly elections took place in two phases, on December 1 and 5.In the second phase, a reported 59.11 percent voter turnout was reported, while in the first, 63.14 percent.The exit polls in Gujarat showed a clear victory for the opposition BJP in Gujarat.
