Heavy rains in Meghalaya have resulted in flash floods and landslides, killing two people.

Water in the flooded Wahumkhrah river, which flows through the state capital, inundated its banks . Sidres K Sahnoh, another individual, was killed in a landslide in Jongksha village in the Mawkynrew block on Friday .

Shillong: Official sources said water in the flooded Wahumkhrah river, which flows through the state capital, inundated its banks and nearby housing colonies, including a school, while another individual, Sidres K Sahnoh, was killed in a landslide in Jongksha village in the Mawkynrew block on Friday.On the Pynursla Road, a landslide was detected, prompting the National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd to remove the rubble.As rescue teams and police personnel arrived to clear the roads, vehicles were stuck on all the state's national highways as a result of uprooted trees and a landslide.Residents of East Khasi Hills district were warned to stay away from rivers, streams, drains, etc, to avoid driving on flooded roads, stay away from electricity poles and cables, and to avoid crossing rivers and streams.

Over the next four-five days, the Metropolitan Center in Shillong said that moisture intrusion is highly likely due to strong lower-level southerlysouth-westerly winds from the Bay of Bengal to the northeast.
