Mangaluru: About 3.4 percent of people aged 18 to 60 years have taken the precaution vaccine dose in the Dakshina Kannada district, the low response being prompted by the widespread belief that the pandemic is over because the number of cases has decreased.A month earlier, the central government approved the precautionary dose to be administered in private hospitals.17.77 lakh people received the second dose out of 18.42 lakh people in the district.However, 61,990 people have taken the supplement dose so far.The majority of those who received the third dose are over 60 years old or are healthcare professionals.

35,592 out of 52,523 healthcare professionals in the district received two doses and 19,892 took the booster.Of the 9,359 frontline staff in a variety of government departments, 5,932 took the supplemental medication.In the 18-44 age range, 8.87 lakh took the second dose, but 1,228 have taken the supplement so far.In the 45-60 year range, 4.45 lakh people took the second dose, while 965 people took the supplemental dose, according to Dakshina Kannada RCH officer Dr BV Rajesh.

For a precautionary dose of vaccin, they would have to shell out Rs 400 in private hospitals.
