New Delhi, December 8: Despite the BJP being in power in the state for nearly three decades, Defence Minister and former party president Rajnath Singh said on Thursday that the coastal state has a pro-incumbency movement.The people of Gujarat have a great faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rajnath Singh told reporters here, after the BJP showed a clear lead in the western state.The Bharatiya Janata Party led on 149 of the total 182 seats, according to reports after the counting of votes started at 8 a.m., while the Congress took a distant second position on 18 seats.The majority mark is 92.

According to the Election Commission's reports distributed until 10.45 am, the BJP maintained its first position right from the start.Gujarat voted in the two-phase elections on December 1 and 5.By the end of the second phase, the estimated voter turnout in Gujarat was 59.11 percent.Gujarat's overall turnout was 63.14% during the first phase of polling on December 1, according to most exit polls.Besides the 68-seat Himalayan Pradesh Assembly elections on November 12, the incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been in power for 27 years, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi serving in the Chief Minister's seat for the longest time before being elected Prime Minister.
