BENGALURU: A gang of loan app robbers demanded Rs 14 lakh from a 32-year-old private company executive by promising to send his morphed photographs with some nude women to all his contacts. The miscreants also WhatsApped the man's PAN card, captioned rapist to his wife.Sanjay (name changed), a resident of a village in Chikkaballapur district, claims to have been blackmailed and Rs 13,97,676 was taken from him towards loans he had not even borrowed.Sanjay told Chikkaballapura CEN Crime police that he had borrowed Rs 3,200 from the loan app earlier this year.

When Sanjay declined to do so, the group sent a copy of his PAN card branded rapist to his wife via WhatsApp.Sanjay was also sent copies of morphed photos of him and naked women to a couple of his friends, claiming he was involved in a rape lawsuit.Sanjay told police that he was watching a video on a popular online platform when he came across an advertisement for a simple loan.He jumped on the link and came to the Handy Loan & Speed Loan application in the Play Store.

He accepted the same and was later asked to upload his Aadhaar card, PAN card, photo, and bank account details. He uploaded them and applied for a loan of Rs 3,200.His bank account was debited with Rs 3,200 in 30 minutes, divided into two transactions of Rs 1,600.Sanjay cleared the loan by paying Rs 6,000 (included interest) within a week.

He suspected it was a mistake and paid Rs 12,001 within a week to cover the loan.Even without his asking for it, the loan app paid him nine such loans.Though Sanjay cleared all nine loans credited to his account, the gang members claimed he had borrowed more money and started harassing him to clear them.He told the crooks he had paid all of his loans and no work was ongoing.

Sanjay transferred Rs 13,29,470 from his Canara Bank account and Rs 68,206 from his Federal Bank account to the miscreants' bank accounts. After seeing the WhatsApp message to my wife, I was afraid. If the miscreants sent my transformed photos to my contacts and thus paid them the money, I thought my standing in my circle and society would be jeopardized.I decided to file a lawsuit when they refused to give me more money even after I paid them Rs 14 lakh, he said.
